I remember when a malathion dip was a common practice for animals. It’s hard to think that it was any worse than the shi ........ crap vets want to sell today. I swim my dogs in salt water every few days.

He probably died from eating Grape Nuts.

I spoke to the vet last year. He said that fleas and ticks are developing an immunity to the OTC products. Our groomer said the same thing. She said it's getting harder and harder for her to find a soap that will effectively kill them and their eggs. She recommended we talk to our vet since they have Rx stuff they can dispense. We've been pretty lucky. Our mutt is a house dog so she doesn't spend a lot of time outdoors or around other dogs.

You might look into this stuff. It's supposedly a new chemical used on fleas but studies show it safe for animals. Get the Activyl Plus, though, The regular stuff doesn't work on ticks. The Activyl Plus has permethrin added to kill ticks.

Just checking you are talking about on the DOG, right? Our lab passed last summer, sadly. Prior to that, we bought Advantix and it seemed to work well.

Now if you are talking about for yourself....I recommend Breck. Made John Edwards look FABULOUS!

Sort of like eating a spoonful of gravel. Only harder.

Some of the problem - and Rick mentioned it - is resistance. There are several groups that would like to see a world without pesticides. They are well funded and very politically savvy. Because of many of those efforts there are fewer and fewer choices available in active ingredients of pesticide formulations. The result is that we are seeing a large increase in resistance to many of the pesticides that are available.

Actually it's not. It's voltage divided by current.

I just picked up my summer supply of DEET for those times that the mosquitoes and black flies get unbearable. It got me wondering if humans have an insecticide that is designed for the blood stream?
