Did you use bait? I caught a bird in one by mistake when he tried to take my willow bark cordage o make a nest.

that's awesome!! would i be correct in assuming that there is no size limit on this design? ...could it be used to kill raccoon, deer?
There are other traps that would be more effective for larger animals like deer. Here's a link for you.

I wouldn't want to be trying to set up a dead fall trap that was big enough for a deer to get under and heavy enough to kill one... mainly cause one mistake and I'm victim. What a story that would make though.
That very thing happened...sort of...when they were building the White Pass and Yukon Railroad. They were blasting rock for the rail bed and a huge 500 ton boulder rolled over on top of two men and their mules. They are still buried beneath it and a black cross atop it.
