My FIL, a Disabled WWII Vet, with a permit to shoot from a vehicle opted for the ruger "Deerslayer" .44 mag carbine....

Can't say I would shoot a deer in a walmart parking lot.
I can say that a nice 1911 in walmart parking lot pretty much assures me that I won't have to deal with anyone looking to take what I put into my car including myself and the kids.
Shooting inside a vehicle is a good way to burst your ear drums or worse.
I had a set of those ear plugs that let you hear, then shut down sound when a firearm is discharged. Never seem to be able to find em when I want em though.
As for a rifle in the truck it is usually my ruger GSR in .308.
Shotgun is just an old double hammer gun kinda like a lupara from china. (12 gauge)
Usually at least two or three other weapons in there at any given moment depending on what is going on.
Around the homestead usually a .44 mag with a few shotshells in case I need to shoot a snake. (Usually I have a hoe or shovel on the tractor so I just cut off the head of the snake with that. Wastes less meat that way, and is sure that I get the head just above the muscles so it don't hop around n bite me.

My boss and I bought those ear plugs from Dick's and he now has to wear hearing aids. I wear muffs with the same feature.I had a set of those ear plugs that let you hear, then shut down sound when a firearm is discharged. Never seem to be able to find em when I want em though.
though I still don't wear anything in the woods when hunting and I have had my ears rung from shooting in the woods.
