Default Anyone ever seen one of these?....what type of steel?

I'm going to clean it up tomorrow...look for a manufacturer....it's about 1/4" thick.

WOW , for free does it matter what type of steel? if not good for knives, sure would come in handy for something!!

I've seen similar blades. Not sure of the steel though IMO you should get all that you can. If you want to send me a few small pieces I'll play around with the heat treat oven to find out if they can be treated to make a decent blade (if that is what you want them for).

Will do Crash....I'll swing by and grab a few of them any way.

What size chunk/s would you like to test?

    Vice still working for you?

The vice is working great! Cut the pieces 1" to 1.5" wide and 6" to 8" long. Once I figure out the heat treat on them I'll grind a blade for you to test.

That looks like a flywheel from a large truck. I'm not sure what type of steel but I have run hundreds on a flywheel grinder to refinish them, in a former life.

Grind a spot in the middle of it with a carbide silicate wheel and photo the sparks. The color of the sparks will tell you a lot about what metal it is.

I never saw a truck flywheel with saw teeth!
