Howdy!
I was a member with the same username over at the SurvivalTopics forums for a while until work made it hard for me to get on there regularly, and come to find out it disappeared while I was away. Somehow I saw that some of the fellow forum members migrated over here, so I figured I'd join.
My name's Jake, I'm a month shy of turning 25, and I just recently moved from San Antonio, TX to the southern outskirts of Houston. Haven't been here long, but I can already tell that the environment's different than what I'm used to. (Pine trees? Where's my mesquite shrubs??)
I'm the survival guy of my friends and family, but I'm by no means an expert. My experience pretty much includes my dad taking me and my brother camping when we were kids, and in my adult life, camping out in the creek in the secluded 5 by 5 acre lot next to my grampa's property. I suppose that was the best environment for me to practice given my inexperience, and the fact that there really were no camp sites around my area. Sometimes I brought a hiking tent, sometimes I just made a lean-to on a huge downed tree on the bank of the creek using branches and leaves and stayed there for a day or two. I hunted, skinned, cooked, and ate squirrels, chipmunks, rattlesnakes, birds, and certain plants while I was out there, and it's given me an appreciation for living off the wild.
Like most everyone else on this forum, my goal being here is to learn as much as I possibly can from this community, and hopefully in some way contribute my own bits of knowledge if I can.
Glad to be among yall.
