Default brick hammer instead of sodbuster or ground hog?

i am starting to get my trapping supplies up for next season, my brother inlaw bought a ground hog tool and told me i needed it or a sodbuster tool. but i've been considering a brick hammer, they look about the same and are cheaper. a ground hog tool will cost $30-$35 with shipping and the sodbuster will be about $30, i can get a good brick hammer at my local hardware for $10. the money i save can get me more traps, if the brick hammer will work. do ya'll think a brick hammer would be ok making land sets for foothold traps? thanks for any help.

You are using terms that YOU know the difinition for but Webster does not.

Brick hammer is a generic term.

Ground Hog tool is a brand.

sodbuster is a farmer, or possibly his pocketknife.

    I kinda confused as well.....But....
My experience that a tool is designed for a certain job....so if one is serious about doing this job,.... the best tool available is what you want to start with.
A substitute may work, but you will be wanting the correct tool soon....so in effect you will be buying two.

Just a few bucks more to go first class.

I don't know that there would be much difference between any of them. I don't trap so my opinion and a couple of bucks will get you a latte. I would think the brink hammer would be lighter though.

is a groundhog a cross peen hammer with a chunk of steel welded on the peen side to act as a hoe? Mostly used for driving stakes, making dirt hole sets, and pulling sod back for bedding traps?

I did a google search and for me a sodbuster with a small trowel shovel would be what I would prefer. Either would work good In my opinion. Back when I started trapping it was a axe and trowel.

a brick hammer is a hammer on one side and wide blade on the other. the sodbuster is a trapping tool as is the groundhog tool. both the sodbuster and groundhog tool weigh about 4lbs each but the brick hammer is about 2lbs. i'm just starting out and trying to save where i can, thanks.

A brick hammer is a little narrow in my opinion and a bit light for driving stakes.

You could always use the brick.
