    Default Help with some identification

So, I am a little slow on the wild edibles. I know what dandelions are and stinging nettle, but that is about it. Anyways, I went through the yard trying to identify plants. Here are a few different ones that I have no clue on. It is hard to search for a certain plant if you don't know the name. Anyways, if anyone knows one, that would help. Thanks

    1. this one is all over the yard, and looks like a vine.

    4. Burdock?

These next ones I found fairly prolific on our last backpacking trip up the canyon.

#1. Without the flowers I can't help you.
#2. I can't make out the leaves well enough. Perhaps someone else can. It might be a toadflax but dogbane and Indian hemp both have similar leaves, flowers and overall shape. It looks like those leaves might be singly attached though.
    #3. Haven't a clue.
#4. Looks more like Bull Thistle to me.
#5. In the wild mustard family? Field Mustard? The pods would sure help.
#6. Don't know that one either.

You need to invest in a guide with some kind of key. Some look at type/color of flowers, some leaves, some by stem or trunk type. It's helpful to see both top and bottom of leaves, fruit, flowers and sometimes roots in order to properly identify plants.

    If it's in your yard.......weeds.
    If it's in the woods/fields.......forage?
I guess that wasn't much help.

Have plenty of 'plants" at "The Place".....that I really should start trying to identify, like one a week or so.....even thought having a student for the local University come out and go thru them with me.....for a fee of course.

You also need to know, zone, soil, sun/shade, and what else is growing in proximity with what ever....and why.

Hands on, one on one seem to be my best bet on learning.....pictures and books are better than nothing, but don't have the smell, texture, taste, feel and general growing conditions.

    Thanks.
#4 looks more like Bull thistle, now that I can look up more pictures of it, since I have a name to search. I will let it flower to make sure though.

that's about it, I've noticed that plants look somewhat differently from one side of the mississippi to the other at least that's what I experienced during a trip to Idaho last year.

I just looked up kudzu and I am sure it aint it. The leaves are wrong, plus the grow area for kudzu looks exclusive to SE US.

I will have to wait until it flowers for positive confirmation, but the leaves look like they match bindweed. THANKS!
