Cool Are you a "Survival Expert?"

I was talking to somebody about surviving in the woods, and after I'd shared some info with them the person said something to me that took me aback: Wow, you're a survival expert!"

"No," I told them, "There's no such thing. I am a STUDENT of survival, as is everyone else. True, some have learned far more than others, but in the end, the only real "expert" is the master, and that is ma nature herself! She calls the shots! It's also true that if you learn all you can about both getting experienced in the outdoors, and how to "BE PREPARED," you will probably never find yourself in a true survival situation. Most often it's the ill-prepared and the inexperienced people that fail in a dangerous, unexpected situation while they're out and about! So if you to want to become true student of survival, then climb aboard." This is a great conversation starter!.....

I've been bustin' around out in the forests, swamps, mountains, and deserts for 60 years... and I'm still learning. I also managed to "survive" in the middle of Los Angeles, Calif., for 36 years, so learned a trick or two about "urban survival," too.

Yeah, just look at why "they" called him blade. Obviously an expert. Well, maybe not, I don't think he had a youtube channel.

Yea, I forgot about the blog! Got to have a blog to be an expert. Blog, video camera, u-tube clip to link too.

I suppose if you have both blog and U-tube channel you are superman!

I have a friend who is 82 years old.

    His mother reciently passed away.

They took it as a terrible shock and considered it a sudden tragic experience. The doctors had failed them, the hospital failed them, the medical system failed them!

    She was 102 years old!

They could not figure out why she just suddenly stopped breathing.

No, not at all... but what it does do is validate that you actually DO something, in contrast to just typing about it..

Plus info, experience and knowledge... no matter how basic, should be shared so it may be passed on and/or encourage others to get in the woods.

What makes someone an expert IMP, is experience. Doesn't mean you're ever done learning but without being put to a test, it's only theoretical. And theoretical survival is pretty much an oxymoron.

So without a camera everyone is a suspect of fraud.

So a Cree Indian in northern Canada that has lived a life in the wilderness, and does not own a camera, has to buy one to prove his abilities?

But some fool with a camera, that has never left his back yard, is and 'expert" because he as a recording?

Does that meand that Nesmck, Kepart, Whelan, Angiers and all the other writers of the past did not know what they were doing because they wrote instead of filmed?

Lord save us from the techno-junkies!
