I looked it up a few years back, and it is difficult to believe, but your chances of being struck by a meteor are about the same as being killed by a tornado.

Apparently it happens more than we realize.

It has always been my contention that the only way and astriod can kill you is to sneek up on you and fall on top of your head.

Otherwise one would simply step to one side and let it hit the ground.

But I am sure there are those who once warned by the shouts of bystanders would stand in one spot looking up in the sky to see if the crowd had spotted Superman.

This report has awakened a new danger, the spectre of falling glass and roof material caving in due to the sonic blast.

It seems that being out ice fishing might also be a dangerous pursuit since this chunk of crap blew a crater in the ice of a nearby lake.

I did note that all the references of past strikes were in reguard to the extinction of the dinasours and none to the Tunguska Event of only 100 years ago.

Some more videos of the damage it caused. The last 3 videos are a bit intense in that regard, as you see the meteor air burst, and a few seconds later the shockwave hits.

You see it off in the distance and it seems to be passing by, not coming at you.

It's decidedly difficult to step out of the way of a body traveling as fast as 11k meters per second. That aside, a 100lb mass traveling at that velocity carries the kinetic energy of almost 1100lb of TNT. If it lands even next to you, you're gonna have a bad day.
