    Default Old rasp found in a barn + hickory from Arbuckle Mountians = ugly knife

    Here is a ridiculous knife I made from an old rasp I found kicking around in an old abandon barn, and a hickory stave I cut a few years ago to make a bow, but it twisted while I was letting it dry in attic of shop. I'm not sure about this thing on one hand I think its cool, on the other hand I'm not sure I would ever use it, I'm not sure I could keep my pants up with it strapped on it weights about 4lbs. After heat treat I couldn't get all the junk out of the old file so I threw it in the sand blaster and hit it with some coal slag, the end result is unique so I went with it.

    10" total length
    5 1/2" blade, at 3/8'' stock thickness
    handle is Oklahoma grown Hickory, "nothing like a nice piece of hickory"

    no I annealed it in my forge before I started working on it, it was as soft as mild steel when I cut it and ground it, I then heated it back up and quenched it in 10w motor oil and tempered it back.

    Not ugly at all, I like the look! The only thing I'd be concerned about would be strange rust-patterns, or difficulty keeping it clean, but proper oiling and maintenance should take care of that. I've seen a lot of file-knives, but this is probably the rawest, most burly looking of them all. Very cool. Some people like symmetry, I personally prefer individuality. How much is it going for?

    Same Here It's Not a Ugly Knife I Love the File Marks And all. Hell I Love Making Knives Out of Old File Look At My Past Knives. Love The Shape and The Grain Pattern In the Hickory.I Would Love to Own It Myself .But Knive Buying Is On Hold .Looking At Moving And Buying a House And Income Tax Money I Hope to Get a Big New Grinder .Been Wanting on soo Bad and Leave My 1x30 To Use for Handle Shapeing
