Default Hello the fire, one comin' in.........

    Dave here

    Male
Been a camper since I can remember. Started reading things about survival when I was 10 or so Robinson Caruso and the Swiss family Robinson probably got me started but then On the Beach and Malevil sent me on a twist pretty early along with the bomb drills at school. Stayed in Boy Scouts till I joined the Navy where I played on subs as a Missile Technician in the Pacific for a while. Came home became the Scout Master of my old troop, taught the hiking, camping, pioneering and wilderness survival merit badges at summer camp for 10 years. Hiked the Grand Canyon rim to rim to rim a couple of times, started trail riding and horse packing about 20 years ago. Longest time in the wilderness was a ride I took with a couple of other men from northern New Mexico up into the Bridger National Forest in Wyoming. 28 days on the trail. I found out I did not know near as much as I thought I did about packin' light and wilderness medicine.

I have worked as a volunteer NREMT (Intermediate), rural firefighter/fire-chief, Red Cross Disaster relief worker. My day job is at a gasoline refinery as a field safety specialist/industrial firefighter/Incident commander. I also am a AHA CPR instructor, NRA instructor in basic pistol shooting and personal protection in the home.

Found this site last night while I was looking at privy plans. My redhead and I live on 50 acres in south central Oklahoma. I have a team of draft mules that I am learning to drive and plow with and 3 riding mules. Working on making our place more self sufficient.

I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.

thank you for your Service DS !!

damn sub-mariners !! gettin to be a veritable PLAGUE of em !!

I've had 'limited' experience with the old Australian 'O' boats........mostly clamberin in an out of the forward torpedo loading hatch, skinnin into Kleppers or Zodiacs and being rapidly left to our own devices............dayum !! Worst bit was the so-called 'snag-tow' whereat the sub snuck up behind two canoes tied at the bowline and 'snagged' the line to 'tow' you closer to shore...........all we ever got was a FAST ride UPSIDE DOWN and UNDERWATER..............and damn near DROWN-DEAD. Them Matelots thought it GREAT FUN !! (well THEY 'would......wouldn't they

Howdy. Funny, I'm a red head, who has an outhouse, who spent most of my younger life off and on in Duncan, OK.

Thank all y'all for the warm and friendly greeting. I have to say I am pretty overwhelmed with the amount of really, REALLY good information, ideas, and obviously thoughtful and sincere discussion here. Very impressive amount of real first hand fresh knowledge being offered here. God I love the net!!! Now I just wish I had time to get "caught up" on all the threads...LOL
Pretty humbling, actually to realize just how much experience is here to learn from.
I am very proud to be a bubblehead by the way, so y'all just take your best shot.

I really am gonna have to spend a couple of months just catchin' up on this stuff here. I am more of a lurker than contributor anyway and in this bunch it is abundantly clear that I really had better just be quiet and learn from the folks walkin' the walk..
again Thank y'all very much for lettin' me sit and listen here.

One of the best things about this site is that it's regular members are generous with their information and advice. As long as you don't ask something really schtupid like, "I'm going off to the wilderness to live off the land. What do I bring with me?" For people that are serious and want to learn and willing to do the work so to speak, they are very helpful. Give yourself some time to get caught up lol. There's a ton of info here.
