    Default Moving to wild alaska??

Here is a link to a list of activities in which you should never indulge, in order to "survive" the Great Alaskan Wilderness.

Note in the two far right hand columns, the activities and causes of death. If you do not do these things, you should be okay in Alaska.

That's not a comprehensive list by far. We have people freeze to death every year, mostly related to drinking and walking...

From what I saw on the list the vast majority of fatalities were from falling off a mountain or having their airplane fall out of the sky.

From that I surmise that if one stays on flat ground, avoids exposure and stays out of airplanes and off snow machines the life is relitively safe.

Probably most of those fatalities are from biting off more than one could chew or having a sudden weather change wreck an otherwise good plan. Down here in the lower 48 a bad weather snap on a camping trip means a little discomfort, up there it can mean death.

Yep. I am gonna get up there...then die. That's ok though cuz it is where I want to take my last breath.

What do I have going for me? I do not drink, smoke or do drugs. I keep a BoB in my truck and .45 on my hip. I stay alert and do not do stupid crap anymore....(usually).

Guess you have to be "adventuring" to get on the list....or someone has to go and try to find/rescue you?

Yep. I got that link from an Alaskan Hunting site I read. A number of the Alaskan "old hands" there said what you posted, 1stimestar. Not a complete list by far of those who "go under," in the Alaskan wilds.

Are those multi-walker fatalities or usually single-walker deaths. Are whole famlies ever killed in the drinking and walking incidents.

Does MADD, excuse me I supose it would be MADW, ever picket the crash sites or lobby in congress?

My Lord when will soneone pass a law and outlaw drinking and walking. That would solve the whole problem right there, a new law.

Wonder if the state of alaska would pay a reward for his current address?
If by what I have learned over the years, allow me to help one person to start to prepare. If all the mistakes I have made, let me give one person the wisdom that allows them to save their life or the life of a loved one in an emergency. Then I will truly know that all the work I have done will have been worth every minute.

How about drinking and passing out in sub zero temps? I would think there would be more of those cases than drinking and walking

Not recommended but a snow bank sure seems cozy when you’re hammered.
