Default This is when it's handy to be a local.

It finally warmed up enough to snow. And snow it did! It's about 17 ABOVE zero this morning. We are forecasted to get 10". We have had a very low snow year so far, receiving less then half of what we normally have gotten by now. That's really bad because snow insulates septic and water lines (for those who have them). One of my friends has already checked in from work and said the drive in was pretty nasty. There are no lanes other then those people are making for themselves. Driving behind someone is impossible due to the white out a vehicle creates. But I love it. I don't have to leave for town until 10:30 so the plows should make it on the main roads by then. But it's still falling, heavily.

You can't make snowmen with the snow we get most of the time. It's too dry. It doesn't pack together. It's like making a ball out of feathers. But on the positive side, you can clean your steps with a broom.

So, why is it good to be a native? I missed that part.

Yeah, you need warm snow to make snowmen. My kids do it all the time, when the snow is right.

You make a valid point about knowing your surroundings. Even something as simple as a snowstorm can create mobility issues, especially for those unfamiliar with the area.

I've often wondered about people with a distant BOL. In the event they find themselves evacuating to some remote bug-out-location, how familiar are they with that particular area? Could they find it without GPS or roadsigns? Do they have alternate routes if their primary route isn't usable? In what I suspect could be a highly chaotic scenario, their ability to adapt quickly and confidently would help to assure those who may be relying on their level of expertise or preparedness.

It's really warmed up. 20 above tonight! Of course, this weekend we have another cold snap coming in. I'm hearing -50 for this weekend.

Wow that's pretty impressive for your area. What have your temperatures been like?

    Lol Hunter.

Here's the chair this morning. School was actually cancelled! We do not have snow days! Really. They closed school one day last year when we had a major ice storm. I think it was 16 years since they closed school before that. Normally they just delay it by 2 hours.

Lol Batch. Keep warm honey! Echo, I love the snow. Last year we had a major ice storm in November and it messed up the roads for the rest of the winter! Snow is good. Except that it makes me want to hibernate; stay home and bake bread.
