    Incidentally, this taxon is distributed only west of the Rockies. There's little risk of region-based misidentification involved when you know which mushrooms grow where.

    Contrary, you don't have to know a mushroom first hand to learn to identify it, though as always it pays to be cautious more than it pays to be bold.
