Many times you'll find it at the heart of fallen pine-type trees. Easy enough to pull the rotten outer layers away to expose the fatlighter heart. I recently helped clean some woods for a lady and many of the pines that were down had fat hearts.
Fatlighter is one of those wonderful things that you can find that makes life so much easier.
I do not scrape mine this way, but rather carve off what I call a "matchstick" but is more of a thin splinter.
I will have to try scraping some and using my striker in this way. Thanks Crash!!
Got a kick out of seeing the little worn paring, got one as well for the garden.....all those fanstatic blades around, and we go back to the handy little knife that we used forever,.... for everything.
