Started off by pulling the handles....

Sprayed it about 4 times with paint stripper to cut powder coat....

    Sand blasted....

    Heated solution to 170F....

    Submersed knife.....bubbles....

    Bubbles stop.....

    Pull and rinse....

    Dry....

    Oil liberally.....

    Reassemble....

Great job. I hate the painted handles. I bet it slices better too.
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.

In my experience, the rough blade paints like gun-coat and duracoat destroys the slickness of steel and interfere with the slicing characteristics of a blade.

I can understand the reason for the change. Thanks for the info. Did you know that before you bought it?

The powder coat was almost like a "non-skid" finish.

I liked the style of the knife....just not the finish.

I found it new for a smoking deal.

I've done this on a few knives....my BK2 being one of them.

Whole process takes less than 2 hrs.

Now...very slick....not quite like one of crashes mirror finishes....but it accomplishes what I want.

I like the process. Oh, if I only had room for a sand blaster.

Cool post on the refinishing......I'm a big fan of mods if I have something I think the mod will work or look better.
    Thanks.

I have some old metal ceiling or wall pallels I'm working on....picked up this sand blaster.

IF you are gonna use it all the time, maybe a better one.

I've used one of those before....they actually work pretty well.

A sand blaster isn't that complex of a machine.....the real trick is having a compressor to run it...

I got the little cabinet that I'm using from one of my neighbors here in the industrial complex I'm in. I saw he had got a large cabinet...about 6ft long. I went to talk to him about maybe using it or having him do some blasting for me...and he had just picked it up for one of his friends.

It was kinda of a bummer but no big deal.....the next day when I came in, this little one was sitting in from of my shop with a note that said "Merry Christmas".

Turns out his friend was replacing it with a bigger one....and gave him the small one. He in turn, gave it to me.

That was 2.5 years ago....he has asked me to blast a diff cover that was for his dads truck.

    It's blasted knives....guns....tools....etc.

I think it came from HF or NTE.
