"Wildman" should get you started, books and apps.

Gilligan - Get ahold of Joe McFarland at his website. He can let you know the next time he has a mushroom class going on and put you in touch with local wild edibles folks.

Joe is an outdoor writer for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. I think his last class on 'shrooms in S. Ill. was in June at the Touch of Nature Center at Giant City. The class was free if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah I know Joe (The Mushroom Guy). I talk to him all the time in Makanda when I see him. That man knows his stuff!

Cool beans!! Have you talked to him about individuals or groups that do wild foraging? There have to be some groups at SIU-C.

Check with John A. Logan as well. I don't know if they do but they probably have a group. Either that or they are part of SIU. I'd also check with the Region V DNR office and see if they know of any resources locally. The office is in Benton but you can email them. They cover everything from Effingham south.

This is one of my favorite books as well easy to understand and great pictures to assist in identification.
