A question about the outhouse: could you cut a slightly larger opening and use a regular toilet seat? (screwerd to the base)
You can, but your butt would freeze to it in the winter.

Do you not have a heat lamp at the least in there?....It's appears to be close enough to a power source.

    Are the walls insulated?

My uncle had a cozy made for his seat.....brought it inside with him....kept it hung next to the stove.

No heat light as of yet. The walls are not insulated at all. Just particle board on a 2x4 frame. I'll probably put a porta potty in our shower room when it gets real cold. Reaching around to the side of the building where I have the extension cord plugged in to the lamp, would be problematic for my daughter, especially when it gets real cold and one is in a hurry lol. The blue foam board is an Alaskan staple for a reason. It warms almost instantly and is easy to change out (I also have a 14 year old son).

Sorry to pry so much about your outhouse..........I have just built a mobile unit that can be moved hole to hole.

Your outhouse....does it have a tank under it or just a hole?.....do you have it pumped?

I don't mind. Just a hole, a big hole. No need for pumping. Moving it isn't possible as it is attached to a catwalk from my deck (no getting stuck in there due to moose hopefully.)

    Wow....didn't think about that.........darn moose.

Is there a issue with odor in the warmer months?

Here it gets warm enough if you do not have it sealed and vented properly.....you're not going to want to go in there.:O

I have a lime chute on the back....so when you are done....you can toss a scoop of lime in and it helps with the odor.

What is the plan for "when it's full"?

Nope, no order to speak of. Not an over abundance anyways. It really doesn't get "that" warm here lol. At my last one, I had a bucket of lime to throw a scoop in but that one was much more shallow. With our temperatures, things don't break down as quickly so the process is much slower. That one would get "poopcicles" in the winter months due to the quick freeze temps, and I was a bit concerned that it would fill up with frozen matter before spring reached us, but it didn't. I'm not concerned with this one at all. I'll probably get some lime for next summer to help it break down faster. It wont get full.

    Poopcicles?......Bhoahahaha......I can relate.
Back in the olden days....the port-a-potty was in the shed of "The Place"...was just a Shasta 16 ft trailer for a long time....so the "bathroom" was the shed, and a step up from just being out side.

Had a guest a young guy that used much more then the required 2 sheets of fanny wipe......so much so that the first day, filled up the port-a potty was filled up to the hole, mostly all paper, and of course it froze......

It became HIS job to thaw out, dump and clean for everyone else......he will never do that again, LOL

So now we added a ceramic heater...the kind that heated surfaces, rather than the air, so there was a fine line between the cold butte or fuseing it on to your butte....yeah, Good times....

    Oh such lovely green grass.

Yea poopcicles form due to extreme low temps. Really, at -50F, "it" freezes VERY quickly. So a poopcicle forms. These build up into inspiring towers of poop that makes one afraid of being poked in the butt upon sitting. They must be knocked down a couple of times a winter depending on how deep your outhouse is. This is done by a stout poopcicle stick that is normally kept around back of the outhouse. I'm glad that I wont have to deal with that this winter with this extra deep out house. Lol the realities of arctic living.
