"One shot wonder" That's funny as all get out Hunter! Maybe he found a bear and tried to shoot it in the head and his bullet bounced off and made the bear so angry that it dropped it freshly picked berries and just ate him instead?

I'm thinking that it's pertty hard to hit a bear in the nose or open mouth, when shooting backward over your shoulder while hot footing it ...Outta here.

Clay, you can see the dents in his forehead from failed shots.

It's probably also hard to get a clear sight window with tears streaming out of your eyes while you flop around on the forest floor screaming "MOMMY MOMMY MOMMY!!!"

    LOL Wildthing, that was funny!!!
Just carry some bear spray, and bear bangers. I've hunted in northern Ontario for 30 plus years and have never had a bear encounter, they are more afraid of us than we are of them. Keep a clean camp, hang your food, and be aware of your surroundings and you'll never have a problem.

the only known surfaces harder than a bears skull is Chuck Norris's fists and feet. Chuck has been known to split Polar Bear skulls like walnuts with one well-placed round house kick!

If you are in a position where you need to worry about protection from polar bears, you will be in a position to know how.

    Welcome to the forum.

First and foremost most high powered ammo will not only penetrate a bears skull but leave it in fragments.

I have only had one bear in my life that did not run when it figured out I was there and it was in Texas,I had to shoot the ground in front of me three times to get it to turn away from me.In Texas they are protected and you don't shoot unless you have too but I'm sure my 44 would not have had a problem dispatching him if needed but the explaining would have been rediculous.

And I would put my chocolate in my coffee so it would be even better. And as for tea I would rather have pine needle tea.

One thing with bears is that you should be able to tell the difference between black bear scat, and grizzly scat. Black bear scat is smaller, darker, with lots of berry seeds in it. Grizzly scat is bigger, smells like pepper, and has bells in it.

For the Survival Kit....if you are making a small kit, then forget the coffee or tea, and chocolate. Put in calorie dense food that doesn't melt on you. I guess m&ms work, since they don't melt in your pack. Peanut m&ms are better. Or you could put in survival food bars. Anyways, I don't drink tea or coffee, so my opinion is biased.

Grizzly scat may also contain bits of human remains.

As for M & M's, They were originally made in 1941 and sold mostly to the military during WWII. The fact that they didn't melt in your hand or pack was the reason why: http://toknowinfo.hubpages.com/hub/MMs--Chocolate-Candy

I'm hard pressed to understand what all the hubub is about bears? I confronted two polar bears in downtown Indy and both seamed just as friendly as they could be. Here's one.

Grizzlies are a little harder to catch but you can do it with a half eaten apple. Here's two of my grand kids giving it a go.
