Been a while since I looked at your post... thought I would suggest a use for the sulfur shelf mushroom. If you didn't eat it all (apparently some folks get sick on this one) then try it for tinder. I've been trying various polypores out, and found the sulfur shelf can reluctantly catch a spark from flint and steel when it is dry. Once charred it grabs the spark, and when dry and unaltered it makes a great coal extender. I am now adding it to my tinder bundles. There is even a reference to it being used for fire by the Japanese.
