    Default Beaver slide..new pic

Taking a little ride on the 4 wheeler to check the lower corn field, down by the river....came across several beaver slides.

They have been knocking down the bank in places and wearing a trail thru the corn to the bass wood and willows in the fields low spot.

They knocked down lots of corn to make a drag path.

Seems they do use a triming rather than a clean cut method....LOL

One of our local parks has been completely distroyed by beaver. They have taken down every tree for 100 yards around the pond they invaded. It looks like a clear cut wasteland.
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?

In past years they have taken down silver maples couple of feet in diameter.....which altered the bank, yeah they do a LOT of damage.

The downed trees form jog jams, then silt builds up and the bank gets cut, and in a few years, the river's course gets changed, meaning more or less land on your or my side of the river.

Might have to get the traps out, instead of just displaying them.....

Hunter - If the river is adding land to your side then keep tossing them limbs. If the river is cutting into your land then get out the traps. '

I would stick a 330 conibear or a snare at the bottom side of the slide. Beaver have backstraps much like whitetail as bit a good too. I would wait until the fur was prime unless my belly button was gnawing on my backbone.

I thought of that, got a few traps hanging as display....goes with the "trappers cabin motif" of "The Place"....haven't trapped anything since I was about 12 years old and went with the neighbor ....He has the biggest collection of traps in the state.

But the deer use the slide....and so do canoe-ers....The Kickapoo is a very popular river for canoes...so kinda put that on the back burner till fall.

I don't see a dam anywhere, river too big....so I don't know what they are doing with the trees they are cutting and dragging?....Mud is all tore up.

Grrrrrr....left the camera down by the river for two days....checked it and found 92 new pics!

Checked them out and had 92 "white outs" show pic's but can't see them!
So called customer service, doing a "hard re-start", then trying it again.
Good news is that they do stand behind it, and if all else fails, they have a "out of warranty exchange" where i can trade it in for a new one.

Sure would have like to see what the heck made 92 pic's....ground really tore up and a bunch more trees down.....grrrrrrrrr.

Do you eat them and/or trade the pelts? I found out last winter that there is still an actual fur trade in our area, and I would think there would be one in WI too.

They wouldn't go to waste, that's for sure.....Now is not prime time for pelts, need to trap in winter....so wouldn't be any market now.

Would need to dig thru the recipes, but have had beaver tail and beans, tail is very fatty.

Need to check the camera today, headed back to the city tomorrow, sadly, for a couple of weeks or so.

So, what you are saying is that those pictures may be of "canoe slides".
