I have some experience with water wells, but I am far from an expert on this subject. If your concern is pumping water when the grid is down I have another option for you to consider. It might be possible to set two different pumps within the same well casing. I've seen windmills with "backup" electric submersibles set up in this fashion. If you were to install a solar powered pump or even an old fashioned hand pump you would have a reliable, albeit slower, means of pumping water out. I suggest you contact a water well company in your area to find out what might work for your specific situation. We have three rural wells set up with solar. One of them has worked flawlessly for 15+ years. The other two have been in use for around 10 years now. For modest residential use, any of these wells could meet my needs for an extended period if required.
