Thread: Ceramic Fire Drill? It's not as crazy as it sounds.

Default Ceramic Fire Drill? It's not as crazy as it sounds.

The title in the article is a bit misleading about "matches", but the write-up is intriguing and brief. Enjoy.

A person could use it as a knife sharpener as well. And it might work with more woods for ignition.

Crazy fantastic idea. I've only seen stone bits used for drilling, but never ceramic drills. It is conceivable that char rather than sawdust sized particles could be produced, and that temper in the ceramics would keep the tip from polishing and squeaking. Thanks for the post. Someone's got to try this. Anyone know more?

Did you guys realize that if you have to carry something with you that you can get 3,000 fires from a Bic lighter?

If I am going to bring fire with me it will be the easiest way to make fire, not the most difficult.
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?

Not me. I'm gonna run as fast as I can through the woods when there is a lightning storm and hope to catch the first sparks of a wild fire!
