Default Why does my Condor Bushlore keep rusting?

I was hiking and we got catch in the middle of a bad storm. It was either walk the 3 miles to my truck (safety) or stay in the middle of all them Live Oaks with lighting cracking above our heads and flooding. After I got back home I went to go clean the knife. I've oiled it serval times but everytime I put it in the sheath it always rust. I've hit it with steel wool and even sand paper to take the rust off and still it rust. I oil it everytime i take the rust off but it still rust. What am I doing wrong?

I'm guessing there is moisture in your sheath.

You should never store a knife inside a leather sheath. The leather will hold moisture against the blade and it will rust. Given that you were caught in a rain storm the odds are, as Crash said, the sheath still has a lot of moisture in it. Store the knife out of the sheath and see if that will resolve your issue. It should.

Your knife is made from high carbon steel. When exposed to oxygen and moisture high carbon steel rusts. That was first discovered back in 1200bc when the first Turkish redneck smelted iron and turned it into a knife and after 3500+- years should be an anticipated event.

Keep in mind the problem may be extremely complicated, though the "Fix" is often simple...

Is that the way I taught?

Yes it was. There is an ageless and universal principle that even a Bazinga will not cover.

You can buy someone a book
You can send them to school

    But you can't fix stupid!

Sadly, that's true. Stupid is pretty much a life long affliction.
