Thread: Cooking Cactus leaves, fruits, and Agave in the Bush?

Angry Cooking Cactus leaves, fruits, and Agave in the Bush?

I've seen many videos saying they are edible and how to eat them, but never learned how to cook one. Anybody got anything? I know they eat Cactus leaves raw in Mexico (removing the thorns of coarse), but I was wondering how would you cook them in the bush?

Edit: No clue how the mad face got there, sorry.

i would hold it over the fire with a stick and roast it. i cook mine on the grill, so campfire sounds good to me.

I live in south texas and here many eat cactus called nopallitto (or nopal) this cactus has no thorns it looks like a regular cactus (we call them prickly pear) The only thing I ever eat off prickly pear is the fruit It taste kinda like watermelon and will stain your fingers.

Just a word of caution. The prickly pear that grows around here has thousands of teeny tiny hair like needles. If you grab a leaf the way that guy did in the video you will rue the day your momma brought you into this world. It's almost impossible to get the @#$#@ things out and they hurt like the dickens. I've never cooked them but I've read that folks hold them over the fire long enough to burn the needles off.
