What would you put in a survival kit

Question for all of you out there. If you could create your own survival kit/pack what would you have in it? Why would you put that in their? No answer is a wrong answer. Of course everyone is going to have a different opinion on what a good survival kit/pack should/would have in it.

Depends on the climate, geography and intended purpose. Here's my EDC kit.

That's pretty nice. I must admit I've never really seen a mirror in any EDC kit, but that would be definitely good idea to have though.

I think most of us on here agree in a modular type set up. That way you can add to and take away as you need to. Some have a designated fire kit (as I do in my pack), fishing kit, first aid kit etc., that can be mounted to their day pack that can be mounted to their full pack. Or some combination there of.

Here's my fire kit. I think it was FinallyMe that came up with this design and I adopted it, stole it, borrowed it. (shrug)

What you would pack for a 3-day backpacking trip is my summer survival kit, plus a PLB. Winter survival kit is basicly the same plus two sleeping bags, and warm clothing (to say -36* below). My survival kits run 28# to 35# in summer and 50# to 55# in the winter.

I like that, even if you did steal it. All we really have is a first aid kit, besides our survival kit. I'll have to see if I can get my guys to do a EDC kit, because that is something that you should have because you never know what will happen on any given day.

Hiking kit, and generally resides in truck ........Actually in process of being up dated....ant least replacing water pure. tabs, coffee, and chewing gum, (old) quarters, and going form nylon strapping to paracord, (or not?)

Kinda building up a "take to outdoor flea markets' shoulder bag, with carrying capacity, water, cheapo ponchos, snack bars, insect repellent, sun block and first aid.....looking at adding a 3 corner chair....looking for a walking stick with folding chair on it, maybe?........For those long days shopping......

I have two of them, they are OK, but very soft aluminum. I now use the solo stove.

Naw, ya see this kit was created back in the old days, before paracord was invented (?).....

Was a dark time with no hope of "survival", as that hadn't been invented yet either, of course we didn't know that.........No interweb and we actually had to send real mail, and TALK on phones....yeah, I know, it was bad.

So anyway back then, as we didn't know anything about survival, we just went out in the woods to explore, hunt, fish, log, harvest wild foods....and sometimes as we would get hungry or cold....We would just put a sandwitch and a can of sodea or beer in your pocket.....couple of free books of matches, and mabe a old poncho.

I can honestly say in roughly 55 years or tromping around, "living" in the woods, (y'all doing this survival stuff, seems uncomfortable to me), the only things I have ever used string or rope (gotta love the term "cordage").......are:
Dragging a deer
Hoisting gun/bow up to tree stand.
Tying a extra paddle in the boat or canoe.....been considering tied guns and bows in the canoe...lately....that anothet story.
And of course tent ropes.

So, no , No paracord..... yet.....But as I mentioned in post #8, might up grade?.....Don'no though, Old Guys get set in their ways.........

Last time I used one of those, camp ground had trees in the way of my satellite dish, had to get the chain saw out of the basement, cut the PITA tree down.....Rangers got all kinds of pressy about it, so I just when inside, turned up the A/C, put some nacho's in the microwave, and poppped a cold one.....

Probably they will go away after a while, it's hot out there.....



Don't laugh, actually saw this happen as spectators......State Troopers weren't so understanding.
