If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?
I'm hanging around for the Rosy Red plague or the Berry Blue Plague. Black Plague is just kinda bland to me.

Yea, but did he get it because the cat bit him or because a flea on the mouse bit him?
Under less than ideal conditions in a long term power outage or situation of civil unrest/natural disaster, like Katrina, an earthquake, tsunami or such, how long would it take for this to become a serious issue, spreading through the population at a rapid rate.
The bacteria is apparently there, dorment under normal circumstances and treatable with proper anitbiotics. What would happen if this man, and ten or fifteen others were infected with no medical help available and no way to contain the spread?
This is the same disease that wiped out half the world population in the 5th century, Rome never recovered from the damage to the population base and it took almost 800 years for the population to recover. It happened again mid-1300s taking 50% of the population and took 20% in the mid 1600s.

It's those "what ifs" that keep us buying gear and the DW to keep giving us "the look".

Hmmm I wonder if the atomic fall out and pandemic suits are some what interchangeable?

What we need is a biohazard suit with radioactive shielding made from mylar space blanket material.
Bioproof, rad-proof, thermal protection in case of forest fire and if there is an EMP your Casio watch will still work!

Ya, know I saw a cartoon once, back during the cold war......Guy was standing on a hill top destruction everywhere, smoking gun and all battle worn looking.....saying....Eve, That was the last of all of them.....Eve? Eve?.....awww shut!
Seems things haven't changed much.

That particular disease really never disappeared. It's always been around somewhere, but because of several factors, it is less prevalent. I remember hearing something about armadillo's carrying it as well.
Every year as long as i can remember there have been prarie dog colonies out this way that have tested positive for the plauge. The health dept usually dusts to kill the fleas. I don't remember anyone contracting it. Hanta virus is another rodent matter that we take pretty serious out here.
Thanks for the heads up.
We are over do for a pandemic. I believe that is one of the more viable survival situations that could turn long term.
Which I'm sure armadillos are overjoyed about.
"Dude, you working for the lab again?"
"Yeah, how'd you know?"
"Your tail is rotting off."
"Oh, yeah. That."

Wow, the random facts people know...lol
Nine-banded armadillos are entertaining when they are fighting. They get all acrobatic on each other. Kinda like natures little blind ninjas.
We used to grab them by the tail and try to pull them out of their holes. These suckers are strong. But, we stopped when we found out about them being the only other animal besides humans who carry leprosy. Though none of us had any body parts fall of that didn't have some mechanical explanation.
Three banded are probably about a third as much fun aren't they?

The Pacific North West gets reports of this every so often. I remember a couple years ago in the Lake Tahoe area of California some ground squirrels tested positive for it. Wear bug repellant and hopefully the fleas will stay off you.
