Default Perigee Moon Tomorrow May 5.

Tomorrow night at exactly midnight (Saturday night/Sunday morning) we will have a Perigee Moon. For those that don't know, this is when the moon is full and closest to the earth and it usually only occurs once a year. Tomorrow night the moon will appear about 14% larger and be about 30% brighter. It will also be accompanied by extremely high and low tides. If you can catch the moon just as it rises on the horizon it will appear even larger. Some weird illusion makes a full moon appear even larger when it's on the horizon so tomorrow night should be spectacular if you have no cloud cover.

AND!!!!!! Saturday also marks the midpoint of Spring. The exact midpoint between the March equinox and the June Solstice will be 11:15 a.m. Saturday.

So Happy Perigee Moon Midpoint of Spring everyone!

We've got clouds in the forecast (sure could use some rain). Here's a picture I took during last years "super moon".

The radio said we are also supposed to have a metior shower but with this super moon it will be so bright probably won't be able to see that. Sounds like a good night to spend on the river just watching the universe go by.

There's hardly a bad time to spend the night anywhere and watch the universe go by. Some are just better than others.

I got a little nervous, when
I saw the words "Rick" and "moon" in the same post.

Ya know something? I instantly knew what you were saying, and that brought about a realization. It happened because it emphasized the fact that I'm a birdwatcher (or as my grandson says, a "bird-looker"). Around here, "birdwatcher" equals "geek."

    Sigh...

By the way, the moon on Saturday evening was abso-danged-lutely gorgeous! It was quite auspicious, too, because Saturday was both Cinco de Mayo (here in SoCal, a massive and joyous celebration of mostly nothing) and a dear friend's birthday.
