So I wanted to test my urban survival skill set. Not wanting to jump too big I planned a little hitch hiking trip. I hitch hiked from E. TN to Maine.

I had never done anything like this and I learned a lot lemme tell you! 973 miles. I ditch camped, homeless camped etc.

Also I just returned from the River Cane Rendezvous. What a incredible skills gathering! I learned to knit fish nets, cut white oaks and split them down to make (pack) baskets, I made center seam mocs, on & on.

I'm in the middle of my busy season but I hope to be able to upload pics soon. Just wanted to drop by, say hello and look around.

Where did you end up when your were in Maine? If you were here in April, you had beautiful weather. I had an uncle who hitched his way from here to Alaska, and back with a German Shepard in the early 60's, and he had many a tale to tell that is for sure. Glad you enjoyed your trip.

I hitched from Oklahoma to Maine once, mostly with truckers. Ah the good ol' days...

Nope, but there and back took me a bit over a month. Of course, I had some side trips lol.

Dang, now I'm wanting to hear more and would love to see pics of the stuff you made and such.

Doing stuff like that is experience that you just cannot get from a book, or most any other way.

I did a bit of hitch hiking in the late 70's, even then the sport was dying out - people are less trusting than earlier days.

How easy was it to get rides and did you have any difficulties?
