Another way to preserve Berries! :)

I harvest berries all summer long and freeze them for making into jams. jellies etc; during the winter months.

Just before I start a new year of berry freezing I empty the freezer of any berries left over and make................

Wine.

the flavors this year are...............Blackberry, Raspberry, Black Currant and Salmonberry!

after my own heart.

My grandmother used to save up purdy wine bottles n then put her wine in em with a balloon over the top for the fermentation to catch. Had to let em settle out and then use a siphon to decant em if you did not want must in the drink cloudy .

I may have missed , she made the wine in one bottle then decanted it over to the purdy ones for ageing.

I'm having trouble getting brain to finger to brain working right.

Gonna go with son to the co-op, and see if my sand paper and other wants came in. (We do have a small gas station / convience store with a grill there and the co-op runs out the back of it. all in one at the cross roads.

Someday it may even make a small town, till then it is a good hour to a decent set of stores, so I try to get the co-op to order in a lot to save me travel /gas.

it's gonna be funny next time we go in with the flat bed. Son has about got all the parts on the gassification machine we made so we can run on wood or coal gas. Probably think we are a bunch of hillbillys come in from the hills next trip in.

OH wait, we are a bunch of hillbillies come in from the middle of nowhere. :-)

Wouldn't have it anyother way.

Yay, wine!!

I've made prickly pear wine before, and it turned out pretty darn tasty. Then I tried a stonefruit wine... not so much.

This time I'm headed straight to the hard stuff -- mulberry gin!



Inside: gin, mulberries, blanched almonds, and sugar.

Now I just have to wait 3-4 months.

Once I strain out the fruit, I imagine it might make a nice sorbet.

This reminds me I have a 7 gal carb that needs to be bottled. Too bad I don't drink anymore it will probablly never get done...

I do not drink much wine, but i do give it away to people who enjoy it and trade it for helping hands.
