    Default Hello from BC Canada!!!

    Hello fellow survivalists!

I have always lived 'close' to the land and for the past 15 years, off grid.

I look forward to chit chatting and learning more from all of you!

    Hello and welcome!
"I enjoy surviving." Yes, well I certainly hope so as the other side of that is "DEATH!"

Howdy from the heart of dixie (alabama).

I have only been up your way twice, but got to say BC is purdy country. And the skiing was awesome. then I had to go have my stroke and loose that ability.

I keep hoping my balance will let me get it back. Perhaps snow shoes instead of telmark skis.

Of course it is rubber mud boots and rain coat here. since we may see a dab of snow on a cool year.

Anyway look forward to hearing how life off grid is. I am working toward being able to live without grid, but still enjoy it if it is available. Kind of having a ability to switch from the propane to the wood in my duel fuel stove.

And I have my eye on a ammonia / propane powered fridge. The root cellar is ok, but again Alabama gets hot. and stuff spoils.

If I get enough coin, I'm sure a good inverter / solar / wood gas generator powered system is in my future. One thing I have is a mountian side of trees for wood. Even though I suspect the wood gas generator will be converting coal to coke so I can use it in the forge.

Sorry for the ramble, I cannot seem to help myself.

I am lucky to have a good stand of Alder on the property for fire wood, enough for my lifetime if i 'work' the Alder trees like any other crops. Not over log and alwys keep more coming along. Alder grows fast!

Well, I have enjoyed my first day on this forum, thank you all.

But, as i am off grid, my solar power supply is getting low so I must say good night to you all!!!!

Just a simple thought, but as you heat with wood, and winter is the time when solar is kind of weak, perhaps rigging up a wood gas generator off the heat of your stove / fire would let you convert some wood to power for a slow 1800 rpm generator to help keep your batteries topped off on those days when the sun doesn't wanna help out.

Side benefit is that the wood you use what is left is charcoal which has a lot of uses also.

    JMTC< YMMV

Howdy and Welcome! BC has a lot I'd still like to see. I envy your location every summer when we may go for weeks with no rain and 100 degree temps. None to very few mosquitos though.....LOL. I look forward to your perspectives and inputs!
