That's a slick idea.
That is pretty cool

Not only a neat idea but kinda artsy fartsy, too.

I got half of that worked out. Still need to work on the artsy part.
great idea, thats a good deak for herbs, did yu fill the hole with anything before adding soil?
Just take note that the ph could remain elevated in limestone block. That would almost certainly be true new, and I would assume dwindle over time. Coating the inside before planting could help.

looks like a cool idea
it'd drain really fast too. I'm not sure it'd hold enough moisture for many veggies.
Gotta side with intothenew and Chris on this one. GREAT idea.
Vertical gardening is a great use of space. Concrete block act's like a sponge that would constantly wick moisture into the air. Would work great for a succulent garden for show. Not so much for vegetable garden. Ph would be a concern with new block, not so much with aged block(3/4 years out in the elements) You could seal/line them somehow, but then the issue of the actual growing space/cell would limit what would actually thrive. Herbs, radishes, flowers, sure. Tomatoes, root vegetables probally not.
Cool idea though and GREAT "out of the box" thinking.

All you in-the-box thinkers. Insert some pots in the holes and all your problems are solved. Except eating what grows but I can help with that.

True, that could work. But does'nt solve "All" your problems. Plants need to either grow out or down with their root system. Inserting a pot into a already small growing area will only accomplish creating an even smaller growing space. I like the idea of vertical gardening and would like to try it one day. I think this idea has merit. Just a few kinks. IMHO.
Regardless, Any one gardening, despite the method they chose, has my vote for AWESOME.

Nell suggested herbs (the spices not the guys). They would probably be okay for that. Corn would be tough to do. Yep.
