    Default Alone, again

All of the varmints had commitments, and couldn't come out and play this weekend. I took the opportunity for an overnight, with some new and old gear. I left home at 10 a.m. Saturday.

I've been fiddling, adjusting, adding, subtracting..........to a MOLLE system for months. The butt pack, FLC vest, and assault pack I have in pretty good shape. She has, for all practical purposes, replaced ALICE. I'm falling in love all over again. Some time and miles with the varmints has helped with that. What I haven't done is "hump the ruck".

44.8 lbs, 2.3 miles, and 840 feet of elevation to come.

Me and that ol' hammock have caught a lot of fish together. I will not wet a line on this trip though. When the sky cries, I can throw and stake a poncho over that ridge line for gear stow. It's to be in the low 40's and clear tonight, so I'll hang the pack.

I had to cut the posting short to go pick up BD, we're batching it this week.

A lot of cares fade away as those shavings hit the ground.

I have been using Big Agnes products for quite a few years, and love them. The pillows are certainly a luxury item, but one that I am willing to carry. I left the BA bag and air mattress at home and carried a GI patrol bag, cover, and mat. I would guess that it has been ten years or more, since I have slept on that mat, with the exception of a soft lawn. It ain't gonna cut it no more. I have to replace that mat. That's really the only issue that I had this weekend, pressure on my hips while sleeping.

I hung my ruck, low for a few hours, and done some camp maintenance.

I usually don't carry that kind of weight, even on extended trips. But, things are in transition here. I am carrying tools as I go, and needed a gallon of water on this trip. There is a well on the property, capped, no power. I am going to have to get a well bucket and make a windlass are the thoughts at the moment.

But, there is a tool shed.

I spent a few hours deer scouting and returned to find a smoldering fire.

Great trip. I can not sleep on a pad like that either. I picked up a couple of full size Thermarest military air mattresses off ebay a few years back and that makes a world of difference. I also won a 3/4 mattress at one of the jamborees (Thanks again, Phil) and I love it as well. Thanks for the journey!!
