Maybe if I release poisoned white footed mice everywhere it will kill all the ticks....

The mild winter didn't do us any favors with the tick population. I will be treating part of the yard and probably the deer trail. You can also get something called tick tubes. They are tubes filled with treated fluffy material that the mice use to make their nests and it kills the ticks on them.
One of the pest control companies up here is experimenting with releasing sterile male ticks into areas to see if that will reduce the population. I don't even want to wonder how they go about sterilizing them....
"I enjoy surviving." Yes, well I certainly hope so as the other side of that is "DEATH!"

here in my part of michigan, ticks were unheard of the last few years they are becoming more and more prevalent.
The mild winter has allowed a lot of insects to survive and thrive.......which isn't always a bad thing.
Ticks have already been in our area for a couple of months this year. They have always been terrible where I live. It's not uncommon for me to get one on me just walking to my car. What's worst are the seed ticks/nymphs. Walk through them and you'll look like you've been rolling in dirt but it's the little buggers. During the warmer months, very seldom do I go out and ramble through our land and it's just because of them. I'd rather just go somewhere else.

Ticks, errrr. Indiana is real bad for them. Last time i spent a weekend camping there.2007. I had 42 ticks on my in 72 hrs. It was gnarly.
All I was drinking was alcohol. Maybe the ticks there are drunks?
Correction- I spent a weekend there in 2010, but I was in an AC'd camper. Ahhhh
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.
Nope. Just trained. They take care of the riff raff for us. Just be careful you don't....wait for it....tick 'em off.
(Lord, I slay myself. I really do)

Good thoughts Rick! I have been a bit concerned about fleas, termites, and mosquitos myself. I forgot about the ticks. Might have to pull out and examine the "pest control counter measures".

Ticks are going to be so bad this year, they will be pulling them off of catfish!
Nater, like tha avatar man!
It's one of those little ones that got me. So now I keep one of those sticky tape lint rollers around and If I feel like there is something crawling on me but I can't see anything I will roll that over the area just to be sure. They are so darn small.

I have aiready been getting alot of ticks, this has been early year for them
Ticks are a recent arrival here to. Over the last 6 years they went from nonexistent to being a real nuisance. I just picked up a couple of tick keys to try.
Tick keys? Can you turn them off?

It would be nice if they just kept going.

When I was younger I went through nest or something, and my ankles were covered in the little boogers. Each leg looked like you dumped pepper all over them, they were the little turkey ticks that are dang near microscopic. Scrubbing my legs with dog shampoo got rid of a lot, if you don't have hairy legs you can use duck tape to rip them off. But that is a bit of a problem for me as I have very hairy legs, so it took a few hours with a pair of tweezers to get rid of them.
The best repellent I have found is permectrin, we buy ours at the local co-op in a concentrated form so you have to dilute it. We mix ours a little on the strong side, spray it all over your boots, pants and shirt. Tuck your shirt in and tuck your socks into your pants. The only thing I have found that will put a dent into them...
