    Default Hello from Skywoman

Hey Y'all! I was just surfing about wildcrafting and came upon this forum. I'm gonna go hunting some nettles in the forest this week and hope to find some mushrooms too. I am 50+ female gardener hiker (AT GA-ME 2004) outdoorsy type gonna learn to fly fish this month and I live in WNC. I grow alot of potatoes without a tractor, sweet potatoes, squash beans and stuff. picking up more primitive skills at gatherings. went to Firefly for the first last year. An
yone know if I can dig some nettle root and transplant it to my place?

Skywoman, welcome to WSF. I'm an Appalachian boy myself. Kinda miss morals and bacon with pancakes and leftover beer for breakfast.
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.

Welcome home. Yes you can transplant them. They are root plants so you can either take cuttings or dig up a clump and divide the plants. The roots run moderately deep so larger plants may not do as well since you'll probably lose much of their roots but the little guys should be fine. I normally don't suggest transplanting from the wild but nettles spread easily and are pretty abundant so I think it's okay with this plant. Since they spread easily you need to consider that in your garden. Either plant them in a container or segregate them from the main garden otherwise they may well take over the garden area.
