Everything work on the Motorola, and i do have several of them, so that's not the issue....
I guess I'll just invest in a small AM/FM for my pocket........It was just convenient to have them all in one.

I heard THAT, for sure! My concern is (a) the likely COST of regaining that convenience versus (b) the true BENEFIT of same.

I carry a really cheap, pocket-sized AM/FM radio, with telescoping antenna, in my gear along with an earplug "speaker" and spare AA batteries. I've owned the thing for better than 30 years, so by now its "free". (The batteries also fit my flashlight btw.)

The entire package is so small and lightweight as to be inconsequential. For my BOB I consider this package to be more important than my set of four GMRS walkie-talkies (also powered by AA batteries) and related goodies, plus two solar recharging units et al.

I've got a couple of these. I tossed the clunky headphones and added a set of earbuds. The radio itself is very small and portable. It is only about a half inch thick and 2" on the widest dimension. Works well, but the earphones are the antenna, so you might want to test with a couple different earbuds for best reception.

Having been through 9/11, I don't go anywhere without a radio to provide news in a pinch. I keep the whole thing with extra batteries in a small mylar bag.

I haven't. I do keep a small transistor radio in my pack http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=3705831 We actually have several of them that are placed strategically (and get used during yard work). Additionally I have a couple of wind up radios in the BOV.
