    Default Hey, y'all!

I just joined a few minutes ago - about 9AM Pacific Standard Time - and thought I'd introduce myself.

I am halfblood Choctaw, I was born and raised in the South, and I spent much of my youth and young(er) adulthood roaming the woods and swamps. My father, who was born in a log cabin in north Mississippi, taught me a lot of outdoor skills and etc. While he was in the Army (ETO, WWII), he made knives for himself and other soldiers. I still have a couple of them, and my sister has the butcher knife and cooking fork he made for our mother. While I don't have his skill, I acquired a real love of edged implements (tools and weapons).

I came across this forum when running an internet search for "Gerber BMF", because I'm developing a definitive history of the BMF and original LMF knives. I liked what I saw thought I'd stay a while. I'll probably be sitting on the sidelines at first, getting acquainted with the board and its posters.

    Regards,

Welcom DN! This is a good place to hang out. Lots of good people with lots of good info. The moderators and adminstraters are pretty good here, too. They are firm, but fair, with the rules which helps make things here pretty relaxed. I don't know beans about edged tools, maybe I can learn a bit from you!

    Welcome
I have something to teach everyone here and everyone here has something to teach me. However it is rare to find someone whose knowledge I lack in the first post. Don't be afraid to teach.

By the same token, don't be afraid to ask. That's the only way I'm likely to know that something is important to you.

PS: Among several Original American cultures, the phrase "you were my teacher" is an epithet. This is not simply or easily explained because it goes to the very root of those cultures, but perhaps it may serve at least as a partial explanation of some puzzling behaviors.

[Perhaps it may also help to explain why I say "don't be afraid to ask"... ]

I guess I missed this intro while rebuilding every carb in the yard due to ethanol gas. So, now I know you are are part Choctaw! Welcome from the "Creek". My grandfather also lived in a cabin in MS. It is where Mom and Dad are from.
Keep in mind the problem may be extremely complicated, though the "Fix" is often simple...
