Default Tried Something A Little Different

I wanted to try something a little different for a handle. This one uses brass and antler. The antler was from a smaller piece, but had quite a bit of a marrow cavity. A multi step process for making them usable was a new one for me. First they were stabilized. That process fills the pores in the material and hardens it, but it does not fill cavities that are much larger than a pore. The next step is to place the material in a vacuum chamber with colored epoxy and draw the epoxy into the cavities in the material. The trick is to move the material before it sets up, but not to let it start foaming.

This isn't done yet, but I am pretty pleased with the results so far.

Outstanding. I've been meaning to build a bell jar. High quality stabilization, resin impregnation and degassing would probably be the most handy uses.

That is a beauty. I really like that.

Canid - If you get that set up let me know. I could use the degassing.

I think that is my favorite knife you have made yet! Truly beautiful!

That is freaking gorgeous. Your best knife to date, IMO, and no offense meant. It's all quite subjective.

Great looking work as usual. The antler and the work you did on it makes for a very interesting and very sound handle.

With bone - leaving it whole (round) just stabilize. If slicing and you need to fill the marrow cavity - stabilize then fill.
