    Default been busy

The warm weather has me motivated. I've been working on a goal of forge welding. I've done a bit in the coal forge but my gas forge just don't get it. I think it's the insulation. So I ordered in some heavy duty insulation and built another gas forge with a induced draft. I still need to make my furnace for melting metals but it's not warm enough for casting the refractory. I also found a supplier of Pocahontas coal in flint, mi., the other option was green bay wisconsin. Not a bad price 23 dollars a hundred pounds. My goal is to make wrapped head tomahawks with a carbon steal insert. I have many irons in the fire, literally LOL.

Sounds like a little progress is being made. If you get the chance, post a few pics.

Thanks for the comments. I don't really have a photo worthy welded project yet although I did have a nice cleft weld with carbon steel and a couple mild steel weld but I cut them apart to check them out.

here's my only worthy photo from my carbon welding quest. Waiting for some holy of all holies insulation. thanks for looking

Man, all this talk of forges gets me really wanting to get my little one finished! All I need to finish it is a little insulation, and hopefully my little propane torch will get it hot enough.

Looks good. It might just be the glow from the burners, but it looks like quite a bit of heat transfer just under the opening.

I believe it is a bit, there's a latch that will draw the door against the forge body. I think that will take care of that.
