    Default Chainsaw Winch

I'm looking to get some feedback on chainsaw winches. I saw one being used on an Alaskan TV show and it looked like it worked pretty well. I'm hoping some of the forum members have had some experience using one. So any information would be great, Thanks!

Yea I saw that on Yukon Men. I was impressed with how well it seemed to work. Guess I've never seen one in action before.
Why do I live in Alaska? Because I can.

Alaskan Survivalist, a member that hasn't been around for a while, had a thread on using one in a remote area.....but can't seem to find it.
A lot of his pic's are not there as well.
This doesn't do anyone any good, other than to say we saw ine in action and seem to do the job.......

Just taking a break on yard work at the moment, i'll look for the thread again, later.

Lewis Winch I think is the proper name. (Or, maybe that is the brand name?)

Ive no experience with one personally, but I understand they are awesomness. I know a lot of SAR teams have one in inventory.

My SIL had one for several years and it was very useful in certain circumstances. The biggest drawback is its relativly low load rating and the cable is kind of short. Still it can come in very handy at times. SIL finally sold it at a garage sale because he just did not use it often enough to justify carrying it around in his truck or cluttering up his garage.

Alaskan Survivalist has deleted many of his posts and removed many of his pictures. Kind of sad really.

A few of the guys at work have used them to haul moose out of the woods, and the biggest draw back is that they are very slow. You will want a powerful chainsaw if you are going to use one. This is just what other people have told me. Maine in in the middle of it's moose season now.
