    Default Days Gone By

As a lot of you know, I take a lot of pictures. I always have. Years ago I was careless in how and where I stored photo albums and they succumbed to mildew. I was able to salvage some - sort of - but lost about 70 photo albums. Fast forward about 10 years to the other day and I went digging through storage. I decided to try and recover what I could. I've got 5 or 6 albums left. There is quite a bit of damage to many (most) of the photos. Scanning and cropping them will enable me to salvage quite a few. While they aren't the best quality because of the damage, they do bring back some fond memories. This will be an ongoing project, including either transferring the salvaged negatives to disc or renting a dark room and getting back to what I used to do. I'll probably add to this thread as I go. Please feel free to post some of your older memories in this thread as well.

This was a 10 day trip in the Olympic Mountains around about 1982. See.......I really have seen snow before.

I can relate, I have alot of 35 mm pics I wish I could show ya'll safely tucked away. I have pondered what is best to pass on to my daughter, hard copy or digital.

While I agree the picture is of someone in the snow, there is no way to prove it's you!

Great Photos ,To Help on Restoring the Photos A Simple Way to get some of the Mold Off is to Bring the photos outside and Lay in ght sun . Causing the Mold to go dorment and Dry up. After the Mold Has Dryed Use Light Strokes With a Lens or Make-up Brush and brush away the Mold Build up . Wear Gloves ,Eye Protection and A respirator .And Clean the Area Wee the Photos Were Stored to remove Mold In the Area.

I have recently taken advantage of a Groupon deal ($40) and sent a combination of 120 old photos, slides & negatives to this place: http://www.scandigital.com/ for high res (300dpi) scanning. Best thing I ever did, since doing it myself wasn't going to happen nor was I set up to do negatives. Some of the older photos started fading and we caught them just in time. Still have lots more to do, but it's a start. We got into a habit of keeping one set of CDs & DVDs at home and one in a bank safe. Of all the things we could loose, photos and home movies would be the hardest.

The funny thing about that pic is that the three of us in that picture were three of the more senior diving officers on the boat. Since it would be my last surfacing we thought we'd have a little fun. I'm at the outboard station where in this case the pitch angle of the ship was controlled.
