    Default Battle of the Bulge!

I got to go with my sons boy scout group to see the battle of the bulge reenactment this year. Unfortunately I didn't get to SEE a lot because I'm short...and apparently there are a LOT of really tall people that go to these things. LOL! The little shops and stuff were neat, lots of interesting things to sift though. Here are a few pictures! I can't wait until next year. The nice weather brought out a LOT of people...and the base is redoing an entire side of the base, so they couldn't keep the groups very separated. That meant that there wasn't very many little displays to be seen. I was amazingly impressed by all the vehicles there! They were all in working order! If you've never been to the Ft. Indiantown Gap reenactment...try and make a point of going next year! It really is worth it.

Hope you've all been well! Ray has his polar bear camp out with the troop this weekend so I've been getting him ready for that and planning for my first weekend in a LONG time...that I can do something on my own. I don't know what I'm going to do!! I can be an adult...and go out and have fun!

Agreed! It really is fun to experience these things with kids. Makes you feel like a kid all over again! Don't let that one picture of my son fool you. LOL! Unfortunately the sun was right in our eyes and it didn't help that the strange man taking the picture for us, creeped him out. He actually DID have a good time.

Ft. Indiantown Gap is one of the training bases the 5th Armored (among many others) used prior to embarkation. At the time it was considered a port of embarkation even though it's 140 miles from the ocean! The men were given passes there only to return with "civilian" diseases of flue, colds, etc. Many had to be quarantined to prevent the spread of disease throughout the division.

Thanks for the pictures. The fort played a hugely important role during WWII in preparation for divisions being sent overseas.

I'm glad you had a good time.

What an adventure, Trab! It's like being on a movie set, isn't it?
btw...your son has grown bunches! I remember a picture of y'all when he got a certificate way back when, and he was considerably shorter than you, just a kid, really. Now he's a young man and almost as tall as you.

Looks like you both had a great time. It's great to watch history come to life. I've been to a few re-enactments in my time... The most odd was an American Civil War Battle. I shouted for the Rebs. They used Black powder and had a Cavalry. The Yankees didn't and had to shout BANG! (reminded me of Dad's ArmyLOL)

B is right, what are you feeding that young man? He's huge!

Well the picture of you with your son may be a real treasure because the first thing that popped in my head was she is lucky he let her put her arm around him. It makes me think back to my son when he was younger, of course he is now 26, 6'4" and a really good dad to his daughter. Cherish those moments but the good thing is when they reach 25 or so they will let you put your arms around them again. Just gotta survive those teenage years.

Enjoy your adult weekend. Do not stay home and catch up on everything because everybody deserves a little play time.
