Does anyone really use potassium permanganate and glycerin to start fires...? It seems completely ridiculous to me that anyone would actually have pot perm and glycerin on them when they are out in the wild, or in a survival situation.

While I don't use it, it does have other uses than just starting fires. Water treatment, disinfectant, marking, and others that escape me at the moment.
In it's day it was a pretty incredible chemical but the dangers and the convenience of new items renders PM obsolete. Not to mention that it will stain anything it touches including glass.
