WOW!!! I know this is an old thread but I was on hiatus for a while and missed all this. Man wish I had known then ( 1st jamboree) what was up. I fell for his line. Went out of my way up to jamboree and picked him up, let him bunk in my tent, helped feed him, took him home AND gave the @#&%*&% a hundred bucks cause his power was gonna get shut off two days after jamboree.

Like any group or organization, there needs to be a purge from time to time. (Not in the same spirit of the movie, but a purge none the less).

Being wounded, but cant get GI bennies, is a big red flag to me in it's self.

The bigger red flag for me was that he stated that he was a Marine Corps Officer and a sniper. In my experience, I doubt it.

What was that conversation between a LT an Sargent... Sarge why do I only have a pistol and a radio, shouldn't I get a rifle too. Sgt if you need a rifle there will be plenty lying around. Officers that are snipers are rare.

Crash Yeah I know but it just irks me that he took advantage of the DOC that does awesome work helping out and putting a little sunshine in the life of a member when things aren't going well. along with the folks who work hard for what we have. Well except for a certain wolf, Er.... Lawyer.... LOL Sorry Ken had to do it. But more so doing a stolen valor thing.

I remember back a few years ago when I was still a fairly new member. My husband was dying, out of state, I needed to get me and my kids down to OK before he died (last minute airfare from Alaska is ridiculously expensive), I had just started a new job so had a lot of catching up to do, and was a total basket case. That one DOC gesture sealed my loyalty to this forum and its members. I couldn't believe that people that barely even knew me would go out of their way to show that they cared. It was a profound realization for me and the reason I never cut this forum out of my list of forums when most of them had to go due to time constraints.

For a member to take advantage of that really gets my goat.

I feel the same way. I received one after my lung surgery several years ago, it shocked me beyond belief. Why would a group of strangers do something like that. It really inflated my spirt at that time, as I was feeling pretty low. You know nothing can hurt me, gee I'm superman. After all, I lead such an exciting life, all those big fires and all those stupid things I have done, gee.

Crash's PM was just at the right time. It just goes to prove that there's all kinds out there.

I'll echo everything 1star and Willie have said about DOC. Been a recipient myself and honestly, you really appreciate the gift. I know of no other forum that has anything close to the level of comeraderie that WSF has.

He tried it on with me, but his constant tales of woe just didn't sit well, so I politely(no, really!) suggested he seek help. I even pointed him to a couple of organisations that help the destitute and needy.
