This is day three of making my board bow. It's made of red oak, poplar, and paper joint tape. I may add some red cedar I cut last year to the tips.

The handle looks pretty bad right now but I'll fix that.

I don't have much time to work on it, it gets dark too early now. I have glued on the cedar tip overlays, will thin the limbs a little more today and shape the handle. I'll post pictures after getting the long string made up.

Hahaha! that took me a while, the leg threw me off. I don't have much of a shop inside so I've been clamping the bow to my rail....outside.

These are from red cedar blocks I cut last year, the last two pictures have nocks cut in them.
(sorry the photos are like this, they don't work when I try the conventional way.)

Looking good, can't wait to see it tillered. Light are great but I find that outside light is much better for tillering.

Looks good so far, I've made about 20 red oak board bows, they shoot very well. Red oak is a good inexpensive way to start, you really have to be careful with grain selection though. I've also found that a six foot bow seems to be the most durable with a 28" draw length, and red oak doesn't generally yeild a bow over the 50lb mark. You need to be careful when you tiller to make sure the fades coming off the riser taper into the limbs, otherwise the riser will tend to pop off.

I don't have any time to get pictures, but it's finally on the tillering tree. It pulls around 40# @ 10" of limb travel with the long string. Haven't braced it yet.

This is the final tiller, 40# @ 28".

I could have made it bend more at the fades but otherwise I think I did pretty good for a first try.
