Mushrooms

Some friends of my Mom when I was in my teens were really into the whole "Mother earth" "Organic" "Live off the land" thing. From what I knew they had been that way for many years. They always looked forward to the wild mushroom season. One day they, my Mom and another lady went out to pick wild mushrooms. The next day my Mom got a call from the other lady. The husband and wife had cooked up some of the wild mushrooms they picked that day and were now in the hospital. The wife died within 24 hours, the husband live for almost 4 days then died. That was enough of an example for me. I never ate another wild mushroom after that and never will knowingly eat a wild mushroom. One other thing, my Mom never picked wild mushrooms again.

I can see where an experience like that will change your way of thinking. Me, I don't know enough about them to safely pick them.

Morel Mushrooms are bad for you! When they're in season they must not be allowed to stay on the forest floor! Pick any you can find, pack in dry ice, & mail them to me to dispose of since I'm the only person in the nation properly trained in their disposal!

Last October I was re-united with my 38 year-old son from my 1st marriage whom I hadn't seen in 34 years! He'd been a Marine & went through the Gulf War, now married with 5 kids, 4 of whom I met (my grandchildren) for the 1st time last Thanksgiving! Well, so much for the Hall-Mark moment.

I love morel mushrooms too. many people are shy of morels because the wine
mushroom thing that the experts say "Makes you SICK" I dont buy it! morels are among the very best food. I know that some of the False morels arent good, for identification I use my books.

I met my real father once. I heard he died about two years ago. Another drunken Indian goes to the happy bar....Oops....hunting grounds. Thank God for Grandfathers.

There are a number of species of mushroom that are toxic, and although some look likes certain fit to be eaten. Most mushrooms that are sold in supermarkets have been commercially grown on mushroom farm.
