    Default Short Dove Season Begins.....

Dove season opens Saturday then goes out Sunday and back again Monday in my Swamp! Picked up some shells on the cheap today. So now I am pondering what would be a good way to cook some up? Anybody have any recipes or cooking preferences for Dove? If so I'd love to hear about it!

What I do isn't anything new but they're delicious! Soak them in Italian dressing over night in the refrigerator, the next day wrap a piece of bacon around them with a slice of jalapeno between the dove and the bacon, then BBQ. Yumm.

Our season starts today. Heading out right after work.

    I shoot my 12ga Mossberg. Usually just use a 7 1/2 1oz load although I will use a 6 or an 8 load.

I almost forgot, pertaining to my post above. Use a toothpick to hold everything together. Depending on how many I get tonight and tomorrow I may make some this weekend. If I do I'll post the process.

Best of luck on your hunting!

I'll using #8 and leaning towardss a 28" modified on my Rem 870, can't make up my mind between it and a 25" barrel with an improved Cylinder. I'll probably try one and when I miss switch barrels! I'll post my results as well! Good luck!

I got it bad YCC! I am planning to set up a base camp at the head of the ditch complete with a shelter and fire pit, cooking supplies the whole nine and spend the day hunting between breaks!

There were two of us out last night for about an hour and a half. We sat by a pond and only ended up with 12 down, recovered 8!! The weeds were so thick around the pond we had to run up to the last spot we saw the dove land and start digging around. The evening was awesome. I think were going out again tonight.

    COWBOYSURVIVAL- Now that sounds fun!

My yard is full of doves, I guess its because I feed them a lot. I've never eaten any but if the time comes I won't have to go far for food. And also rabbits and the furry little treerats. I should eat good for a while!

I am heading out! Going to establish a base camp for the 3 days first and when the sun drops and it cools off I will hunt. Bringing the camera along to share later on! Wish me luck. I am going to fix me a small snack once base camp is setup on the wood gassifier.

    Default Day 1

Well I got started about 3pm, it was 92 deg. F no wind and HOT. I set out to setup a base camp of sorts. I really didn't hunt much, base camp proved to be too much fun. I shot 3 times and no doves....I think Swamper was a little disappointed but I had fun.

Hauled some busted up concrete into the woods for a fire pit. We don't have rocks in the swamp...

Started a shelter, we have rain in the forecast today and tomorrow.

Tried out the wood gassifier stove I made, there just wasn't enough breeze for it to work right, good to know that though.

I finally just cooked over the fire on the stainless steel grill I made for this new retreat in my woods. I used only my BOB food preps. I had some noodles and salt pork, and spices. It turned out yummier than I thought it would.

There is a heart in the smoke...the "ole" lady pointed it out. Of course, I replied I did that just for you!

One more of my new shoulder bag. It is my EDC. Hope ya'll enjoyed it as much as I did. I'll be heading back out after lunch, the hunt is afternoons only. I have been sitting here all morning watching doves in the horse pasture.

Awesome pictures! Looks like you had a good time. We went out a few times but I didn't end up making any of the dove, Yet. I'll get you some pictures sometime.
