    Default Planer Blade Knife

Just finished this one up. I did not heat treat this blade. I made sure I cooled the steel after every pass so that it would not heat up and change the properties of the existing treatment. I tried hand sanding a few small scratches out when I was done. 45 minutes with 320 grit wouldn't touch it. Sorry about the pictures - indoors with a flash. Steel is from a planer blade (D2), scales are a piece of scrap hardwood flooring, and the pins are 1/8" brass.

That is a dandy. That's about the right size for a "go to" knife. I like the scroll work on the sheath, too. You're gonna turn into a knife maker yet.

I'd like to tell you that it was painstakingly hand tooled, but it's actually a roller. The stitching marker I was using was 6 holes per inch (Tandy has 5, 6, or 7). I wanted to pick up a 5 hole per inch marker so I went to a local Tandy store (actually the only one now, since the one I used to frequent is closed). They had what I wanted, but they also had a marker with all three interchangeable marking wheels. There were also several pattern wheels that fit onto it as well. This is the only one I picked up, but I'm sure there will be more in my future.

Looks great Crash! D2 is some seriously tough and hard steel it is my preference in some of the tooling designs at work.

Most of the local knife makers that have been making knives for a while use a lot of D2.

Yes. I was almost sorry that I decided on the double pins at one end. Drilling the four holes took about 30 minutes (as opposed to two minutes in annealed steel). I dulled two 1/8" carbide bits.

Very beautiful. Is "Crashblades" etched on, or how did you get it on?

Thanks, I haven't had a chance to see the video yet, but did see the post a while back. Didn't put 2 and 2 together.

No ****. Yeah, smoked Salmon it is. I've never damaged an antler handle but a stabilized one, man, rock solid. What is the impregnating agent?
