    Strawberries look yummy!

How do you normally prepare the beets? We like them steamed or boiled with other greens.

Winnie, do you can-pickle the beets or just cook em pickled?
That's the only way I'll eat em.

I just saw the U-pick strawberry signs were up just a little south of me. Might do some preserving this weekend. Love em dried too.

Hey not all is lost in your garden!!! Boy those strawberries look delicious. So what you going to do with them? And the beets look very nice as well. How dso you prepare beets in England? We cook them and put them in vinegar and eat cold, or pickle them then use them at Easter to make pickled eggs.

I generally boil the beets, and then either serve them hot as a side dish, or cold soaked in sweetened vinegar. I also make a salad of cooked diced beets with green onions and mayo. I also cook the tops like spinach.
When I pickle them, I cook them, then pour over a solution of 75/25 vinegar and water, sweetened with plenty of sugar.(I had a bad experience with my Dad's homemade super strong pickled onions as a girl, I was sure I'd gone permanently blind so I'm a pickle wuss!)
As for the Strawberries, I'm ashamed to say I sat and ate all but a handful which I had with porridge for breakfast yesterday, for a snack as I watched Wimbledon!
I don't preserve Strawberries anymore. I have decided that they are such a treat that I only have them in season. Besides, Strawberry jam is wayyyy too sweet!

And no I won't get offended sjj I know it is your way!lol

Thanks Winnie for your reply about the ways you use beets and strawberries. I just wasn't thiking that of course you eat strawberries and cream or at least that is what we have always been told is qwuite the dish at Wimbeldon. The beets with onions and mayo sounds good I think I will give that a try.
