    Default Emergency communications

Do you have a radio plan worked out in case of SHTF or lizard people invasions? Are you licenced? What kind of radio you got and how do you keep it charged? Have you played around with DMR anything?
I've been playing around with a couple of cheap chinese radios and I've given a couple to friends so we can play with them. Very childish to run around with walkie talkies but very fun. Very.
I'm looking to make an off grid system for a permanent structure. propably a simple dual band setup for 70cm and 2m.

I have multiple sets of walkie talkies, 2 hand held UHF/VHF for repeater towers along with roll up antennas, several CBs, 3 multi band radios solar powered, some of each are in a faraday cage

I would think a scanning hand held unit.....with direction finder that cover all the bands....would be useful.

Make it easier for a raiding party to locate you with all you cool gear.
And assume if you got that, you will have other supplies as well...

Actually we used the Cobra walkies talkies a lot.....Mine had a FM option that quit?....all other functions worked fine?????
    Anyway

It alert would go off and make a noise (PITA)....so turn them on vibrate...carried in left jacket so as to
reach it with right hand....They would go off, scare the crap out of you.... and you would swears a giant hornet was gonna get ya....LOL...not good 12 ft in a tree stand.

Used scan a lot to hear what others were doing

Had killed a nice buck one morning ....
Couple of moments I hear a voice on the scanned channel....."Doug was that you that shot?
Answer "Naw it was those azzhats across the highway...again.....wonder if they got anyting?"

    I keyed up the WT....
Sais "Yeah, this is the azzhat accross the highway....was an 8 pointer, came from your way...Didn't ya see it?"

Didn't hear much for them after that.
Now most everyone uses cell phones.

OK One Time Star, as a mom you are in a different category that the rest of us.

As a kid I was known to hear my Mom calling from our house down to the creek where we were fishing.

That distance was over a mile.

But we were well trained. If we even THOUGHT she was calling we headed for the house just to check.

One did not fail to come home when Mom called!

Be home before supper .......Easy to tell...as everyone working in town went home at 5:00P.M....like watching for the ants heading back to the nest.
Then after supper... when the street light came on.....
Of course there weren't any street light in the woods..
